Jessica Backhaus
born in Germany, Jessica Backhaus grew up in an artist household. 16 years old, she moved to Paris where she studied photography and visual communications and worked as a picture editor. In Paris, she meets Gisele Freund, who becomes her mentor. In 1995 her passion for photography drew her to New York, where she begun work as a photography assistant. Jessica’s work has been exhibited at National Portrait Gallery in London as well as at galleries and museums in New York, Paris and other European cities. Currently, Jessica Backhaus is completing “Jesus and the cherries”, a book project on parts of Poland, to be published by Kehrer Verlag in Fall 2005.
