Sophie Ristelhueber
born 1949 in Paris, where she still lives.She studied at Sorbonne and
at l’Ecole pratique des hautes etudes in Paris. Active as a
professional photographer since 1980, she photographed for La Mission
photographique de la DATAR, focussing the French alpine landscapes.
Claiming wrath to be at the center of her work Ristelhueber’s
photography evolves a language for expressing places and environments
of conflict; she has photographed in Armenia, Bosnia, Libanon, Kuwait
and Iraq. Her work is collected in several monographs, such as Beirut –
Photographs (London, 1984), Aftermath (London, 1992); Sophie
Ristelhueber · Details of the World (Boston, 2001) and W B, Thames
& Hudson, London 2005. Among separate exhibition since 1990 are
